De hibernicis vocabulis quae a latina lingua originem duxerunt is a philological study written by the French Celticist Joseph Vendryes (18751960) and published in Paris by C. Klincksieck in 1902. The work, running to about 198 pages, is divided into two main parts: an Index operum litteris compendiosis laudatorum in the opening section, followed by an Index hibernicorum vocabulorum (pp. 109185). This second section systematically gathers Irish words of Latin origin. Vendryes' aim was to provide a comprehensive survey of the vocabulary in Irish that derives from Latin, thereby documenting and clarifying the linguistic exchanges between the classical and the Celtic worlds. The dissertation was intended not only as a lexical catalogue but also as a contribution to the historical study of contact phenomena between Latin and early Irish.
