This picture is the reminiscence about the September days of the year 1997, when the World Congress of Science, Culture and Art took place in Oxford. Being its member Vavilov presented his Concerto No. 1 for violin and orchestra, having been composed a year before this event. Once during the period of studying at the Moscow Conservatoire he fortuned to listen to Menuhin. The great violinist was conducting Mozart's Requiem and performed solo part in Mendessohn's Violin Concerto then. Later Guennady Vavilov managed to greet Yehudi Menuhin on the same very stage. Scampering through the manuscript Menuhin inquired if the author was a violinist himself. How much astonished he was, when he knew Vavilov was not a violinist at all, for the violin part was accounted conveniently and logically. Vavilov was once again striken by Menuhin, having masterly gesticulated the solo part. Menuhin's farewell aspiration was to get this music and to perform it himself, or to entrust it to the best disciple in the music school found by him in England. Alas, that appointment was the last one for both musicians. Yehudi passed away a year and a half later. Although Menuhin did not have time to hold Vavilov's manuscript in his hands, the trace of his existence is dwelling in this blissful music. 9790660047019.
