Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seventeen years after the 2nd International Symposium on Oxygen Transport to Tissue, which was held in Mainz in March 1975, the local Organizing Committee and the Board of ISOTT were pleased to host the ISOTT Conference in Mainz on the Rhine again. T…he venue of the 20th meeting was the prestigious, fully restored Schloss Waldthausen (Waldthausen Castle) which provided a special setting for ISOTT 1992. The beautiful front view of the castle became part of the ISOTT 1992 logo. The 20th ISOTT Meeting was held in Mainz from August 26th through August 30th, 1992. The Conference attracted 200 active participants from 16 countries. The theme of this meeting emphasized oxygen transport to tumors but as in earlier meetings, essentially all aspects of oxygen transport within the body were covered as demonstrated by the manuscripts comprising this volume of the series 'Oxygen Transport to Tissue'. All manuscripts were reviewed. Extensive revisions were made in about 25% and modest revision in about another 30%. Because we had to compromise between the aim of rapid publication on the one hand and the need for thorough review on the other, minor errors in format and some typographical errors were not corrected. Except for some revisions, all of the original camera-ready manuscripts in this volume were prepared by the authors themselves and we greatly appreciate their cooperation.

Dies…e fächerübergreifende Form der Darstellung soll dem Leser einen sinnvollen Zugang zu den medizinischen Grundlagenwissenschaften eröffnen und zugleich das Verständnis für die Zusammenhänge fördern. "Brauchen wir noch Lehrbücher im Internetzeitalter, wo sich Wissen alle fünf Jahre verdoppelt und wo Information in jeder Qualität und zu jedem Zeitpunkt zugänglich ist? Bezogen auf den TMV, wie Kenner dieses Lehrbuch der Anatomie, Physiologie und Pathophysiologie des Menschen liebevoll bezeichnen, lautet die Antwort ganz klar JA auch, weil dieses Werk zu einer Kategorie von Lehrbüchern gehört, die sich das Prädikat Klassiker erarbeitet haben. Immerhin ist die erste Auflage des TMV (Thews/Mutschler/Vaupel) vor nunmehr 28 Jahren erschienen. So gibt es mit Sicherheit nicht Wenige, die diese sechste Auflage sehnlich erwartet haben, um ihr neben den fünf bisher erschienenen Ausgaben in ihrer Handbibliothek einen Platz freizumachen. Aber den TMV als Sammelobjekt zu degradieren, wäre natürlich zu kurz gegriffen. Fragt man die Autoren nach ihrem Erfolgskonzept, so könnte auf das von der ersten bis zur aktuellen Auflage durchgehaltene Prinzip der fächerübergreifenden Darstellung der drei medizinischen Grundlagendisziplinen Anatomie, Physiologie und Pathophysiologie verwiesen werden. Sicherlich ist dies auch ein Grund dafür, dass der TMV gerade bei den nicht-medizinischen Disziplinen Pharmazie, Biologie, Humanbiologie, Psychologie, Biologische Chemie, Medizinische Informatik, bei den medizinischen Assistenzberufen und im Oberstufenunterricht an Gymnasien eine so große Leserschaft findet. Dabei ist das opulente Schwergewicht alles andere als ein Digest . Es ist ein Lehrbuch vom Feinsten, dessen durchgängiges Ziel es ist, der beschreibenden Disziplin Anatomie nicht nur einen funktionalen, sondern auch einen molekularen Unterbau zu verschaffen und umgekehrt. Und mit der Einbindung der Pathophysiologie wird deutlich, warum Struktur und Funktion so intelligent aufeinander abgestimmt sind, und wie sich Strukturen abnutzen und verändern, wenn an der Funktion gedreht wird. Und spätestens hier wird klar, dass der neue TMV vielleicht noch mehr als sein Vorgänger mit Recht auch den Anspruch eines Nachschlagewerks erhebt. Denn viele der aufgezeigten molekularen Zusammenhänge sind Erkenntnisse unserer jungen Forschergeneration, die erfahrene Praktiker in den Heilberufen gar nicht haben lernen können. Als weitere Antwort auf die Frage nach dem Erfolgskonzept mag man darauf hingewiesen werden, dass die Vermittlung von Wissen heute keine Veranstaltung mehr ist, die um ihrer Selbst Willen stattfindet. Als erfahrener Lehrer wissen die drei Autoren, dass der Lehrende auch eine Bringschuld hat, die darin besteht, den Lernenden (mindestens) das zu vermitteln, was zur Qualifikation für hoch angesehene Berufe notwendig ist. Denn in unserer Gesellschaft zählt (leider) zunächst einmal nicht, was der einzelne weiß, sondern was er als Wissen nachweisen kann. Und so überrascht es nicht, dass sich der Inhalt dieses Lehrbuchs auch an dem orientiert, was in Gegenstandskatalogen einschlägiger Prüfungsbehörden vorgegeben ist. Ganz sicher aber liegt ein Grund für das TMV-Erfolgskonzept darin und hier würden sich die Autoren wahrscheinlich bescheiden zurückhalten ,dass diesem Werk, ebenso wie anderen Lehrbüchern der Autoren, ein didaktischer Ruf vorauseilt, den einzelne bereits als legendär apostrophieren. Dabei ist das didaktische Instrumentarium hoch modernSelbstverständlich sind alle Abbildungen im Vierfarbdruck realisiert. Kernsätze oder Stichworte sind fett oder kursiv gedruckt hervorgehoben, und ins Detail gehende Zusatzinformation wurden in kleineren Typen gesetzt " (Prof. Dr. heo Dingermann, Frankfurt/M. Deutsche Apotheker Zeitung) Endlich ein Buch, das alles in sich hatAnatomie, Physiologie und auch die Pathophysiologie. Am Anfang jedes Kapitels bekommt man einen Überblick über die Anatomie, um das Verständnis der anschließenden Physiologie zu fördern. Gerade vorm Physikum, aber auch nachher in der Klinik ein tolles Buch zum Nachlesen, Wiederholen und natürlich auch Lernen. Wer den Stoff wirklich verstehen will und nicht nur stur auswendig lernen möchte, sollte auf jedem Fall nicht an diesem Buch vorbei gehen Als Übersichtswerk über menschliche Anatomie und Physiologie ist dieses Buch uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen. Auf 770 Seiten gibt es einen vollständigen Überblick über die menschliche Anatomie und ihre physiologischen Funktionen. Ergänzt werden die größtenteils gut verständlichen Texte durch farbige Abbildungen und Schemata, die unterstützend und erklärend eingesetzt werden. Pathopysiologische Aspekte werden ebenfalls angeführt, aber nur in Grundzügen dargestellt. Sie ergänzen das Gesamtbild sinnvoll, erfassen aber bei weitem nicht alle Aspekte der jeweiligen Erkrankung/Störung. Für mich ist das gut geführte Sachregister ebenfalls sehr erfreulich. So findet man Erklärungen gesuchter Begriffe problemlos. Einziger Kritikpunkt, der auch jedem sofort klar sein sollte, ist, dass besonders die physiologischen Vorgänge meißt konzentriert und auf wesentliches beschränkt werden. Das tut der Verständlichkeit und dem Anspruch als Übersichtswerk zu dienen zwar sehr gut; offenbart seine Lücken aber vor allem bei spezielleren Recherchen. Da es - wie im Vorwort nachlesbar- auch nicht der Anspruch der Autoren ist, sich in komplexen Abläufen zu verlieren, sondern die wesentlichen Aspekte verständlich und integriert darzustellen und das auch hervorragend umgesetzt wurde , gibt es von mir immernoch 5 Sterne.
