After his triumphs in such works as The… Specter of the Rose and Petrouchka, he set out to make ballets of his own, and with his Afternoon of a Faun and The Rite of Spring, created within a year of each other, he became ballets first modernist choreographer. For six weeks in early 1919, as his tie to reality was giving way, Nijinsky kept a diary--the only sustained daily record we have, by a major artist, of the experience of entering psychosis. In some entries he is filled with hope. He is God; he will save the world. In other entries, he falls into a black despair. He is dogged by sexual obsessions and grief over World War I. Furthermore, he is afraid that he is going insane. The diary was first published in 1936, in a version heavily bowdlerized by Nijinskys wife. The new edition, translated by Kyril FitzLyon, is the first complete and accurate English rendering of this searing document. In her introduction, noted dance critic Joan Acocella tells Nijinskys story and places it in the context of early European modernism. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Fue la figura central de los Ballets Russes como bailarín y coreógrafo y allí se consolidó de cara al futuro como ícono queer, en el término de una carrera que solo… duró diez años. Además de haber sido un bailarín descollante, quizás el más importante del siglo XX, desplegó una singularidad inolvidable. Su camino estuvo atravesado por las tormentosas relaciones que estableció con su mentor personal, el empresario de las artes Serguéi Diáguilev. Curiosamente, fue en Argentina donde Nijinsky contrajo matrimonio y donde interpretó su último ballet. La noche de su presentación final declaró su casamiento con Dios y se entregó a la escritura de estos textos casi sin pausa, durante poco más de un mes, hasta que fue internado en un hospital psiquiátrico. Este libro de culto, generalmente traducido como "Diarios" (pese a que el propio Nijinsky les llama "Cuadernos"), está hecho de una escritura que oscila entre momentos de un tono confesional y una profundidad mística, aunque siempre desbordante en ritmo y estilo poético. El lenguaje, llevado hasta el límite de la ecolalia, hace de la lectura un proceso exasperante y magnético. La presente edición, traducida directamente del ruso, cuenta con una introducción a la figura de Nijinsky y a su época a cargo de su traductor, Fulvio Franchi. Asimismo, culmina con un epílogo escrito por la filósofa y bailarina Marie Bardet, quien reflexiona en torno a los cruces entre escritura, danza, razón y movimiento que atraviesan los "Cuadernos".
