From Wikipedia: "Henry Clay Barnabee (November 14, 1833, Portsmouth, New Hampshire-December 16, 1917, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts) was an American actor and operatic comedian, best known for…playing the Sheriff of Nottingham in Reginald De Koven's Robin Hood. He also helped to found the opera troupe "The Bostonians" and was active in the Boston Ideal Opera Company. Barnabee was a member of Columbian Lodge in Boston, joining in 1865. He joined St. Andrew's Royal Arch Chapter in June of 1868, and DeMolay Commandery a few months later. His papers are held by the Portsmouth Public Library in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Contrary to legends, Barnabee donated the papers himself in 1908, and over saw the design of the initial exhibition." From an on-line posting: "Henry Clay Barnabee, was a comedians comedian. His career did span a true lifetime. He was great singer, performer, and most of all, a friend of the theater. He was a member of all the major theatrical groups. He was the founder the Bostonians, a performing group that worked all over the country for 25 years. Lastly he was an author of an autobiography. One of the copies of his book is in my library. I have enjoyed reading it." From an. Fair. No dust jacket. Signed by author. Cover worn. Front hinge cracked. Signed on fep. Pencil erasure residue on fep.
