Edición limitada a sólo 100 ejemplares numerados publicados por el autor, este con el número 18, impreso posiblemente en su propia casa. El virrey Bucareli dispu…so en 1777 que se llevaran a cabo descripciones o relaciones de cada una de las alcaldías mayores de Nueva España, un poco a semejanza de como las había planteado ya Felipe II en el siglo XVI; para redactarlas había que atenerse a una instrucción o cuestionario de Antonio de Ulloa, jefe de escuadra de la real armada. Esta obra contiene por primera vez en manuscrito de la descripción de San Miguel el Grande cuyo original se conserva en la Biblioteca Nacional de México, transcripción de Jiménez Moreno. Fundada en 1542 por Fray Juan de San Miguel, en el siglo XVIII y la primera década del siglo XIX, la ciudad se convirtió en importante centro comercial gracias a las fincas rústicas de Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí y Zacatecas, pues era paso obligado para el traslado de la plata hacia la ciudad de México y punto de abastecimiento de toda clase de mercancías destinadas a las poblaciones de la región. Estas relaciones, especialmente las relativas a México, fueron transcritas por Joaquín García Icazbalceta y en mayor medida por Francisco del Paso y Troncoso, sin embargo, algunas muy importantes como ésta habían permanecido inéditas. Considero por tanto este libro como una de las rarezas bibliográficas mexicanas del siglo veinte: escrito y editado por el propio autor en edición limitada a 100 ejemplares. Si bien algunos bibliógrafos actuales critican las publicaciones de Luis Vargas Rea por su falta de calidad editorial, impresos con mal papel muchas veces, no cabe duda que actualmente son muy buscados por los coleccionistas. 210x155mm.
