Removed from Bound Volume. Later printing. Pamphlet. Removed from bound volume. (6 1/2 in.x 4 in.). Paper wraps with lovely frontis engraving of actors by artist John Vanderbank, about whom it was said that ".only intemperance and extravagance prevented Vanderbank from being the greatest portraitist of his generation, his lifestyle bringing him into repeated financial difficulties and leading to an early death at the age of only 45" (DNB). 120 pp. The play itself by John Vanbrugh, an architect and dramatist (1664-1726), whose "plays offended some sections of society by their licentiousness, but also because he promoted equal rights for women in marriage.". Vanbrugh was also a member of the Kit-Kat Club, where many leading Whig nobles and figures in the arts gathered." (Britain Express). Nice bright pages. His plays offended some sections of society by their licentiousness, but also because he promoted equal rights for women in marriage. His Whig political leanings brought him into contact with leading political and social figures in London society, helped by his membership in the popular Kit-Kat Club, where many leading Whig nobles and figures in the arts gathered.
