Reprint. Zustand: Gut. pp. 418-420. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of the ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Binding light-margined, a bit dog-eared, otherwise clean. - From the text: The expression thýraze kíres-Kares, oúk et Ánthestíria was generally explained of the dead (kíres), who at the end of the Anthesteria were thought to have been driven out of the city and the houses of Athens. So it seemed to offer a welcome support to the theory that kír may sometimes indicate the soul of the dead. This view was recently and, so it seemed, effectively combated by Ganszyniec, who in Eranos 45 (1947), 100-113, put an end to the consensus of the critics. This scholar stated the incontestable fact that in the text of the Paroemiographers, by whom the saying was transmitted, the best MSS do not offer kíres but Káres. - Wikipedia: Marchinus Hyminus Arnoldus Leonardus Hendrikus van der Valk (* 1910; January 5, 1992) was a Dutch classical philologist and theologian. Offprint. Zustand: Gut. pp. 207-218. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Author's name handwritten on cover, paper browned, otherwise good and clean. - From the text: The recent publication of Dr. Erbses interesting book on Aelius Dionysius and Pausanias invites students of these matters to discuss the points in which they do not completely agree with the author. First of all we refer to sardónios gélos Eb. Paus, s 5 (p. 208, cp. also Eb. p. 55 N 2). Erbse rightly states against his predecessors that Eust. (1893, 5 ff.) mainly depends on Schol, ? 302 and has not consulted Paus, this time. We further observe that Eust. 1893, 12 épékeina Sikelías (the location of Sardinia) is not derived from more abundant Scholia (as is assumed by Erbse) but has been added by Eust. himself (For the fact that the Byzantine public was less acquainted with the Western regions, cp. e.g. Anna Comnena, Alex. V, 8, Reiffersch. p. 177, 12 of Sicily nísos ánchoü tis Italías keiméni). - Wikipedia: Marchinus Hyminus Arnoldus Leonardus Hendrikus van der Valk (* 1910; January 5, 1992) was a Dutch classical philologist and theologian. Offprint. Zustand: Gut. pp. 78-80. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Author's name handwritten on cover, otherwise very good and clean. - From the text: In connection with the edition of the first volume of the Homeric Scholia published by Erbse I wish to discuss G 35. The exhaustive evidence presented by Erbse enables us, I think, to make a guess about the true Homeric text. - Wikipedia: Marchinus Hyminus Arnoldus Leonardus Hendrikus van der Valk (* 1910; January 5, 1992) was a Dutch classical philologist and theologian. Offprint. Zustand: Gut. pp. 5-11. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Binding rubbed and lightly bumped, author's name underlined on cover, otherwise very clean. - From the text: The new edition of the first volume of the Scholia of the Iliad published by H. Erbse will undoubtedly give rise to a renewed study of these scholia. Since elsewhere I have made an extensive estimate of the merits of this edition, I will restrict myself here to a criticism and a discussion of a few passages, for it will be understood that the clever editor has not always succeeded in solving the difficulties that are presented by the text. - Wikipedia: Marchinus Hyminus Arnoldus Leonardus Hendrikus van der Valk (* 1910; January 5, 1992) was a Dutch classical philologist and theologian.
