Top page-edge gilt. Limited edition of 75 copies printed. This copy belonged to a prominent scholar in New York at the IFA, and has his bookplate on the front endpaper. Also annotated by the scholar with a few brief pencil marks to one section of the text, and a few entries. Text by William R. Valentiner. 81 works of art are catalogued and illustrated with black & white photographs. Valentiner refers to this collection as 'the finest collection of old masters in Los Angeles'. It includes works by Gainsborough, Romney, Sir Henry Raeburn, John Hoppner, Sir Thomas Lawrence, J.M.W. Turner, Claude Lorrain, Watteau, Nicholas Lancret, Francois Boucher, Greuze, Vigee-Lebrun, Fragonard, Hubert Robert, Moreau, Pierre-Paul Prudhon, Canaletto, Guardi, Rosalba Carriera, Salomon van Ruysdael, Aelbert Cuyp, among others, and French period rooms with furniture. 12" high X 9" wide, 17 text pages + 81 plates, each with an entry identifying artist, date, materials, subject, etc. Rare.
