Currey's first binding of black cloth, front and spine lettered in silver with upper and lower case lettering. Very Good with wrinkling to spine and light splash marks to cloth. Small soiling to textblock edge. In Near Fine white dust jacket (the variant matching the book design with no illustration; no priority) with a faint vertical crease to front cover and thin tidemark to rear flap. Errata slip laid in. Both the dust jacket and errata slip were issued after the initial publication. [Joshi 11. Currey p. 324.] Lovecraft's first published book based on the Cthulhu Mythos intended to be circulated amongst a small circle of the author's inner circle. According to the publisher approximately 400 copies were printed, of which about 200 were bound, the remainder destroyed at a later date. Issued in November 1936 despite the copyright stating April 1936 and later reprinted in a 1942 issue of Weird Tales.
