Each historical age is complemented by black and white illustrations throughout, including a frontispiece depicting the "Magna Carta: The Birth of English Liberty", from the picture by S. Van Abbe.Bound by Eric Sweet, a keen collector of private press and fables. He studied at the Brighton College of Art, before moving to London to work as a letteringartist and typographer for advertising agencies, later becoming the head ofBirmingham School of Printing.
