About the book >.>.> The history of Twickenham and Isleworth have been covered in outline by the standard works of Lysons, Cobbett, Ironside and Aungier, but these are often very superficial when it comes to individual houses, estates, and plots which may have played a long and continuous role in the history of the whole area. That an immense amount of material exists from which detailed individual histories could be compiled is soon apparent when one begins to work backwards to original sources. At least twelve large scale maps of all parts of the district have been made at various times from 1607 to 1960, and the Middlesex Deeds Registers. local Rate Books and general taxation returns provide almost comprehensive coverage of property and population over a long period apart from other specialised sources. Twickenham Park has perhaps more early history available because of its early royal connections. This more detailed account, and yet still only an outline. came to be written b.
