No Binding. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. An ephemera woodblock print, similar to kawaraban, possibly a shrine souvenir. It represents the cutest beast named "felicity", a chimera made of twelve Zodiac creatures. Text on the upper part of the print gives 12 short moral stories for each creature. The original woodblock was made by Enrosai Shigemitsu in around 1845-1854. The iconography is reasonably rare, but we know that 10 years later in 1858, another artist Utagawa Yoshitora made a similar image of the Zodiac chimera. However the print is a copy of a Shigemitsu' Kotobuki by an unknown printer, possibly a craftsman. Text in Japanese. 36,8x30cm. 1 leaf, complete. Woodblock print on thin paper, monochrome. Foxing all over. Twice creased. Very good condition.
