Paper covered boards are edge rubbed and a bit surface scarred; spine edge furred and missing small narrow pieces of the paper covering stock. Boards detached from the internal saddle stapled binding with text block laid in the boards. Illustrated with 6 color lithograph and 6 half-tone plates - charming examples of Brer Rabbit illustrations by an unattributed artist. Worn and tired copy but quite uncommon in any form. An unusual aspect of this copy is the plate opposite page 82, which unlike the other plates is not bound in but tipped on to the spine side margin of page 83. Clot at spine a bit crimped and corners just a little bruised. All around a splendid copy of this early, though posthumous collection of Whitcher's highly regarded humorist and satirical work. A rare appearance of the Cologne Progressives (a movement that grew out of Expressionism and Dada) in Czech periodicals, probably under influence of August Tschinkel who most likely designed the periodical anonymously and who actively participated in the group. Good condition with wear at edges. Unmarked pages. Horizontal crease. Rather than caricature the class enemy, the Progressives attempted to visualize the social relationships that gave the ruling class its power. The group was heavily influenced by anarchism, with many of the political constructivists contributing to a range of anarchist and socialist publications. Nase cesta was a student journal published in Kladno from 1929 to 1935. No institutional copies held inside the Czech Republic or out. Rare!

The Khanty-Mansy (aka Ostyak-Vogul) people are a Finno-Ugric speaking minority in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region of the Western Siberian Plain. This primer, like all those issued to minority peoples and Russian readers alike of the era, is a propagandistic device to inculcate Soviet psychological and societal programs in the minds of the youth from the beginning with the acquisition of literacy. OCLC locates one holding worldwide, (NYPL) but not found in their catalog. A fine copy.
