Jahrhundert) brachte viele der bedeutendsten Philosophen heraus, die einen starken Einfluss auf die weitere Geschichte ausübten. Die Entwicklung der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft, die steigende Bedeutung der individuellen Freiheit und die Idee eines demokratischen Rechtsstaates waren die wesentlichen Forschungsfelder dieser Zeit. Bedroht durch viele Kriege und mehrere Revolutionen war die damaligen Machtverhältnisse in der Weltpolitik ein zentrales Thema, dem sich viele Denker angenommen haben. Neben Thomas Hobbes, John Locke und Jean-Jaques Rousseau, wären an dieser Stelle noch Charles-Louis Montesquieu, der die Gedanken Lockes fort führte ebenso zu erwähnen, sowie Immanuel Kant. Die Vordenker, der über all diesen Philosophen genannt werden müssen, sind keine geringeren als Sokrates und Platon, von denen sich die einzelnen Ideen mitunter sehr weit entfernten. Gravierende Veränderungen in den Gesellschaften, dabei im Wesentlichen die Veränderungen der Staatswesen, des Freiheitsverständnisses, der Herrschaft und des Bürgertums waren die Folge dieser Entwicklungen. Der Staat und das Individuum standen im Zentrum der innergesellschaftlichen Veränderungen. Sowohl die einzelnen Individuen, als auch politische Entwicklung waren von den Folgen einer Fort- und Weiterentwicklung der Staatsform abhängig. Der Staat übernahm zusehends die Rolle einer Institution, die das Leben der Staatsbürger untereinander regelt und damit nicht mehr nur indirekt ihr Leben beeinflusst. Einleitung'Bildung, Bildung, Bildung' , so lauteten die Schlagworte des ehemaligen Premierministers Tony Blair bei seinem Amtsantritt vor 11 Jahren. Schon damals war vielen Menschen klar, dass ohne Bildung der Wandel in der heutigen Wissensgesellschaft nicht zu bewältigen ist. Der Zugang zu Bildung, Qualifikation und Kompetenzerwerb, sowie das Erlernen von Konflikt- und Diskursfähigkeiten entscheidet über die Beruflichen und gesellschaftlichen Chancen eines jeden Menschen und damit indirekt über seine Entlohnung und seinen Lebensstandart. Doch auch bundesdeutschen Politikern ist das Thema Bildung, ein sehr wichtiges, wie zum Beispiel Horst Köhler, dessen so genannte 'Bildungs-Rede' im September 2006 auf große Zustimmung gestoßen ist. Das Staatsoberhaupt sprach sich in seiner Rede in erster Linie für die Wiederentdeckung der Werte, die bereits seit Generation eine der höchsten Tugenden in Deutschland seien, aus. Eltern sollten dabei wieder Vorbilder für ihre Kinder sein und diese Werte vermitteln. Die Bildung findet seiner Meinung nach nicht erst in der Schule statt, sondern beginnt bereits im Elternhaus. Seine Therapievorschläge waren dabei nicht sehr innovativ, jedoch zutreffend: 'Deutschland muss mehr Geld für Bildung ausgeben in Zeiten leerer Kassen, zu Lasten anderer Bereiche!'Der Bildungsaspekt ist aus der heutigen Sicht leicht fassbar, doch was ist der vorgeschichtliche Hintergrund und welche Entwicklungsgeschichte liegt diesem Begriff zugrunde In den folgenden Ausführungen soll nicht die aktuelle Bildungspolitik näher beleuchtetwerden, sondern die Bildung und gesellschaftliche Brauchbarkeit im 19.
