Contains, among other pieces, Twain's short piece "Membranous Group" on pp. 86-94 (here spelled in the complete title "Membr…anous Croup and The McWilliamses" but as "Membranous Group" in the index) as well as "Miss Blanche Says" by Bret Harte. Orinianlly published in 1875, "Membranous Croup" was the first of three comic tales about the tribulations of middle-class couple. Very good or somewhat better, light even soiling to the wraps and a small chip foot of spine.

This issue contains Twain's short piece "Poor Little Stephen Girard"; though now generally accepted as part of Twain's ouevre, the piece was originally published in 1872 in a New York newspap…er over the name simply of "John". Some newspapers of the time attribted it to him and others did not--Twain never denied authorship. Very good, some light staining to two corners of the wraps and some loss to the spine strip.
