Turner, uniform with the sumptuous turn-of-the-century series of twelve plates to accompany Dr. Frank M. Johnson's Forest, Lake and River. The first depicts a leaping…salmon; the second a plunging salmon taking a fly. Little is known of the life and career of August D. Turner (d. 1919), who worked as a portraitist and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The large and dynamic paintings of fish for Johnson's work are his chief legacy. Few completes sets of the suite of twelve plates have survived. The present plates are UNRECORDED. Reuter p. 722; for Johnson, cf.
