In den WarenkorbSmall 4to. 1 p. Signed in pencil. In Russian. Important military document concerning Alexander Beloborodov and Christian Rakovsky. In his function as Commander of the Red Army, Trotsky detaches Belobodorov to the newly created Southeastern Front, where he would become a member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the 9th Arm…y, and names Rakovsky deputy chairman of the Red Army's Political Directorate. - Trotsky had resumed control of the Red Army in late July 1919, following a brief demotion and detachment to the Southern Front due to intrigues of his principal internal adversary Joseph Stalin. Beloborodov and Rakovsky were close allies of Trotsky's, and he undoubtedly hoped to strengthen his position within the Red Army with their appointments. - Alexander Beloborodov (1891-1938) is best known as one of the principal officers in charge of the execution of the Imperial family. The Bulgarian-born Christian Rakovsky (1873-1941) led the Ukranian SSR government from 1919 until 1923, when he was removed from the Ukranian government due to his opposition to Stalin. Rakovsky was sent on a diplomatic mission to London and would serve as Soviet ambassador until 1927, when he returned to Moscow and was subsequently exiled within Russia for several years. Both Belobodorov and Rakovsky were leading members of the Trotskyist opposition to Stalin from 1923 and were openly persecuted from 1927. Belobodorov briefly housed Trotsky following his eviction from the Kremlin in 1927, but was expelled from the Communist Party and exiled to Siberia later that year. Despite recanting his opposition to Stalin and rehabilitation in 1930, Belobodorov was arrested in 1936, at the beginning of the Great Purge, and was executed in 1938. Rakovsky shared his fate: he was convicted in the so-called Trial of the Twenty-One, the last of three public Moscow trials against prominent Bolsheviks in March 1938, and executed three years later. - Co-signed by an unidentified official and stamped recto and verso. With administrative annotations. Old reinforcements to the left and upper margins.

Living in France after his return from exile in Prinkipo, Trotsky writes to his lawyer Gerard Rosenthal, urging him to continue to oversee the publication of his works and to defend his interests generally, adding that he looks forward to a meeting when they can continue their discussions on these issues: "Je…vous demande de continuer a vous occuper activement de l'edition de mes ouvrages et d'adjoindre ce soin a la défense des interets généraux que j'ai confiés a votre charge. In den WarenkorbLarge 4to. 1 ¼ pp. To his lawyer Gérard Rosenthal about the Trotskist newspaper "La Vérité", which Trotsky had co-founded in 1929: - "[.] - Atatürk had granted Trotsky political asylum in 1929; he spent the years until 1933 on the Turkish island of Büyüka.

In den WarenkorbA total of 19 pp. Folio and (large) 4to. In German and English. Highly political letters written during Trotsky's exile to his confidant Albert Glotzer, who, together with James P. Cannon and Max Shachtman, had founded the Trotskyist movement in the USA. Beginning shortly after Glotzer's extensive visit with Trotsky in Prinkipo,… they mainly discuss the problems of concentrating the forces of the International Left Opposition against Stalin in Europe and America, the tactics in dealing with moderate parties and groups (the so-called "Centrists"), and the fragmentation tendencies among the American comrades; the final letter concerns the question of a Jewish state to be founded in Palestine.

In den WarenkorbVarious formats. Altogether 4 pp. on bifolium. Interesting correspondence with his Paris lawyer Gérard Rosenthal. In the first two (autograph) letters - written from his Turkish exile - Trotsky gives an account of his endeavors to relocate to France. The typed letter (dated 8 December 1938) is written in Mexico City, where the e…xiled Trotsky was coordinating the activities of the Fourth International into opposition to Stalin. In his telegram of 10 April 1939, also written and posted in Mexico City, Trotsky expresses his worry for his first wife Aleksandra Sokolovskaya, who had been arrested in 1935 and taken to a labour camp in Siberia, where all trace of her had been lost in 1938. He is also worried about his grandson Vsevolod (Seva), the son of his daughter Zinaida, who had taken her own life in 1933. After the death of his father Platon Ivanovitch Volkov in Paris in 1936, Seva had been in the care of Jeanne Molinier, the ex-wife of the French Trotskist movement, who had known Volkov well and now claimed the boy for herself. Trotsky sought to have Seva join him in Mexico and ultimately won custody before the Mexican courts: about a year before Trotsky was murdered he finally managed to embrace his beloved grandson in exile.

Trotsky, Leon (1879-1940) - Typed letter signed regarding the Paris conference in 1933 - Soviet politician, revolutionary, and political theorist. He was a central figure in the 1905 Revolution, October Revolution of 1917, Russian Civil War, and establishment of the Soviet Union. Typed le…tter signed "L. Trotsky". 1p., 7.75 x 8.5 inch, n.p., 1933 September 25. To Comrade John Paton in Herts, England. In English, in full: "Thank you very much for your attention to my articles. Sorry that I cannot avail myself of your kind offer as from the very beginning I assigned my articles for the disposition of the British group of the Left Opposition, and trust that these comrades will find a way of bringing them to the attention of the members of the I.L.P. (Independent Labour Party). Also, prior to the receipt of your letter I already agreed to that suggestion of comrade Fenner Brockway regarding the discussion organ. Two days ago I received your beautifully compiled report on the Paris conference. For the first time now I get a clear picture of what took place there. Unfortunately, however, my copy contains a technical defect: page #18 is not printed at all. If you have an extra page 17-18 I would be very thankful for sending it to me. I would very much like to a complete copy of this important historic document in my files". Some creases, handling wear, probably slightly trimmed, else good condition. The Paris conference referred to took place on 27-28 August 1933. It was held of the Left Socialists Communist Oppositional organisations with fourteen groupings represented on the grounds of degeneration of the Third International, (an international organisation founded in 1919 that advocated world communism), the Trotskyist sections declared for a Fourth International. This was founded by Trotsky and other communists in 1938 as an oppositional alternative to the Stalin-dominated Comintern. A fine historic letter!
