Original vintage GWR Great Western Railway poster for Somerset featuring a scenic countryside view by Herbert Alker Tripp (1883-1954) of trees behind and flowers on the grass in front a traditional thatched cottage with a fox hunter wearing a smart red jacket and leaning back to another horse rider behind him, walking around the corner with their dogs along a path next to a hill leading into the distance with chickens in front of the house in the foreground and the information text with the GWR logo below - Somerset England Travel information etc., from associated British & Irish Railways Inc, 16 West 49th Street, 9 Rockefeller Plaza, New York City. The English artist Sir Herbert Alker Tripp CBE (Alker Tripp; 1883-1954) was a police officer who was appointed an Assistant Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police (1932-1947); his paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy and many were used for posters. Lithograph printed by Dangerfield Printing Co. Ltd., London. Very good condition, restored tears and minor loss on margins, backed on linen. Size: 100.5x63.5cm.
