Leonard was founded in 1958. Two years later, Daniel Tribouillard, Chif Executive Director, at that time, invented a new printing technique for pullovers named Fully-Fashion. Leonard took out a patent for this technique which allows to knit with a continuous print. In 1983, Japan asked him to design a line of kimonos. For the first time in 2642 years, since the birth of the Japanese kimono, a Westerner has the right to penetrate the secret of making traditional kimonos. In 1984, after several months of work in Kyoto and the study of "Japanese floral symbolism," he presented his first collection of kimonos in Japan.
