Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. First Edition. Inscribed by the author on the title-page: 'For Craigie and Anthea. I hope these offerings don't spoil our long relationship. Sean Treacy '82. (See scans). ***Near fine in orange boards with silver titles, nice and bright. Tiny nicks to a few p…age fore-edges (hardly noticeable). ***In a near fine illustrated dustwrapper which is slightly rubbed and has been price-clipped. Top edge of dustwrapper is slightly creased with one tiny closed tear to bottom front cover. Otherwise a nice, clean and bright inscribed first edition copy of the author's first novel featuring Shay Scally. ***'From western Ireland comes Shay Scally, naive, ill-educated, but determined to make his way in London. His attempts to earn an honest living are cut short by the pressing attentions of his huge, lusty landlady, and he falls under the spell of Manny Wagstaff, gay, fast-talking and irremediably bent. The incongruous pair embark on a life of petty crime: robberies from pubs, a bank fraud, a jewel raid and a cleverly planned burglary. But soon Manny's ambitions begin to outstrip Shay's; their criminal exploits become more daring and inevitably begin to go wrong. Shay tries to wriggle out from Manny's dominance, only to find himself further enmeshed in a tangled world of espionage, homosexual intrigue in high places, adultery and finally, back in Ireland, the IRA'. ***'Sean Treacy is the landlord of the Queen's Elm, the famous London pub. Fast-moving, entertaining and outrageously funny throughout.' ***'Very funny, touching and filmable.' [Guy Hamilton - director of Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, You Only Live Twice, The Man With the Golden Gun and Funeral in Berlin). [Quotes from jacket blurb] ***This is Sean Treacy's first Shay novel. We also have an inscribed first edition of his second Shay novel 'Scallywags' listed on ABE. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Signed by Author(s).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Inscribed by the author on the title-page: 'For Anthea and 'Craigie' with love and respect. Sean Treacy '82. (See scans). ***Near fine in red boards with titles in silver, nice and bright. In a very good dustwrapper which has been price-clipped…. Top edge of dustwrapper is slightly creased with one tiny closed tear to top back cover. Red lettering on spine of dustwrapper slightly faded. White background of dustwrapper slightly discoloured. ***'Scallywags opens with the pair trying to lie low after their latest mishap, Shay in a remote Irish village and Manny in the more salubrious setting of Venice. Romantic entanglements (of a vastly different kind) put an end to these idylls, whereupon Charles Mason, the enigmatic man from M15, reappears to blackmail Shay and Manny into reforming their partnership. It is a move he will have cause to regret. A sabotage mission to Ireland ends with that country experiencing its first 'earthquake'; a prominent Mafioso suffers an unlikely fate in Sussex; and relations between the security services in Britain and France are strained to breaking point as the 'Scallywags' carry out their orders in their own inimitably inept manner.' ***Laurie Lee: 'unspeakably readable'. In den WarenkorbFirst Edition. Original bright red cloth with the slightly rubbed dust jacket, unclipped, designed by artist and graphic designer Keith Cunningham. Small stain at foot of rear pastedown by join with spine. Association presentation copy from the author to local Chelsea resident and noted bohemian, Mary Swan. There is no doubt the… two were well known to each apart from the obvious fact he signed the book for her; both Irish, and both stalwarts of the Finch's (Kings Arms) and Queens Elm in Chelsea. Indeed Treacy was the landlord at both of these legendary bohemian hangouts, and Mary would have often been the other side of the bar with the boozy clientele of artists, actors, losers and boozers. The book was purchased directly from Mary Swan at her Chelsea mansion flat. Book.
