Der amerikanische Countrymusiker, Songwriter und Schauspieler (1917-1983) übernahm die vornemlich in der schwarzen Blues- und Ragtimemusik verbreitete Gitarrentechnik des Fingerpicking und brachte sie, später als Travis-Picking bekannt, in die Countrymusic ein. Seine ersten Platten erschienen in den späten 1930er-Jahren, richtig bekannt wurde er aber erst nach seinem Militärdienst, als er 1946 für Capitol mehrere erfolgreiche Singles aufnahm und gleichzeitig kleine Filmrollen erhielt. Er war das große Vorbild des Gitarristen Chet Atkins und einer der ersten Country-Musiker, die eine Elektrogitarre einsetzten. 1953 spielte er eine kleine Rolle in oben genanntem Film und sang den vorliegenden Titel.
