He invented the modern otoscope and devised the first modern mastoid operation which was first performed in England in 1868 by Hinton. Tröltsch was a co-founder of the Archiv für Ohrenheilkunde. He invented the modern otoscope and devised the first modern mastoid operation which was first performed in England in 1868 by Hinton. Tröltsch was a co-founder of the Archiv für Ohrenheilkunde. In his Translator's Preface, Roosa considers this edition a "new work". The translation has been liberal in part - Roosa has added material of his own and in several cases expressed his own, different opinions. He took care, however, to enclose his material within parentheses indicated by his initials. In 1873 Roosa has published his own version of "Practical Treatise on the Diseases of the Ear, including the Anatomy of the Organ".
