Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. This is an account of the career of Tony Jonsson, the only Icelander to fly with the RAF during World War II. Enlisting at Padgate in 1940, he was posted to 17 Squadron at Elgin where he flew Hurricanes and then in September 1941 moved to 111 Squadron at North Weald. It was here that Jonsson began his diverse and exciting Spitfire operations, initially on day-fire offensives and night-fire duties, and then on Operation Torch and with the crucial action in North Africa. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. …

In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First Edition. Publication: London, Grub Street, 1994 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 208. Condition Report: Near Fine. This copy presents exceptionally well, housed in its original, vibrant dust wrapper which retains a high-gloss finish entirely free from notable rubbing, chipping, or fading. The primary terracotta cloth boards are remarkably sharp and unbumped, boasting brilliant, unoxidised gilt tooling to the spine. Internally, the binding remains perfectly square and notably tight. The text block is immaculate, with all leaves and edges remaining uniformly bright, crisp, and entirely devoid of foxing, spotting, or prominent handling wear. A truly superb, highly collectable example. Catalogue Note: This is a true first edition, first printing of Jonsson's acclaimed wartime memoir. First edition status is corroborated by the undisturbed copyright statement and full ISBN designation to the imprint page, with no subsequent printings noted. While not an inherently rare text, copies retaining such a pristine, unblemished dust wrapper and vivid spine gilt have become increasingly scarce on the open market, as aviation memoirs of this era frequently suffer from heavy handling and shelf-wear. The volume is complete with its central section of photographic plates detailing the author's extraordinary service. Dancing in the Skies is the remarkable and highly personal memoir of Thorsteinn "Tony" Jonsson, the only Icelandic pilot to serve in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. From his adventurous childhood in Reykjavik to flying Hawker Hurricanes and Supermarine Spitfires with Nos. 111 and 65 Squadrons, Jonsson recounts his combat experiences across North Africa and the skies over Normandy with tremendous wit and humility. Credited as an ace with multiple confirmed victories, including critical actions on D-Day, Jonsson's narrative offers a totally unique, outsider's perspective on the RAF, capturing both the terror and the camaraderie of wartime aviation before his post-war transition to a pioneering career in international civil aviation.
