First Edition in this form. Good copies only in contemporary maroon full leather boards, somewhat scuffed on the surfaces and rubbed along the edges. Spines gilt-tooled with raised bands, now somewhat worn; volume 2 spine considerably faded. Spine labels lacking; endbands rubbed, with a tear to the head of volume 2. Rear joint o…f volume 3 broken, with the board attached only at the bottom stitch. Text blocks remain very good, tight and clean overall, with only scattered, faint foxing. Despite substantial evidence of use, this remains a very serviceable set with strong, well-preserved interiors and illustrations.
