Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good dj. First Edition. [a good sound copy, lightly shelfworn, spine slightly turned, some paper ephemera (old Christmas card, small label with verse) on front pastedown along with former owner's name; the jacket is lightly edgeworn, with small tears at the spine extremities, a couple of short edge-tears in the rear panel]. "Old John Belknap, powerful timber baron, needed a manager for the Kampfest operation, but refused to give his son the job, even though the boy was thoroughly qualified to handle it. 'Too young,' he said. The boy thought differently. They clashed, and Young John went out to prove his father wrong." The North Woods of the book's subtitle are those of the author's home state of Michigan. Titus (1888-1967) was a native of Traverse City, and in addition to his fiction writing (half a dozen or so novels and numerous short stories, mostly backgrounded against the timber industry), he was an ardent conservationist. He served as the conservation editor of "Field & Stream" magazine, helped organize the Isaac Walton League in 1922 and was a long-time member of the Michigan Conservation Commission.

Vintage double weight studio still photograph from the 1925 silent film. Bumbling newspaper clerk Henry Baxter is helplessly in love with a coworker in this silent-era comedy. The subject of his longing barely acknowledges his existence. His unrequited love coupled with his manager's devious daily taunts makes work tortuous for the poor clerk. He begins to day dream about a better life and a less cowardly self. Footage from William Beaudine's 1925 film is believed to be lost. In the still, we see a wide shot of the newspaper office in which Baxter works. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good plus with pin holes, toning overall, and two manuscript pencil annotations to the verso.
