In Le BrunÆs paintings we discover mysterious messages, signs, and stories in pictures. Le BrunÆs abstract expressionist art is a feast for the eye and makes no reservations; he throws us into deep water with motifs that are traditional bearers of representations of the sublime, the exalted, the evocation, the mysteriously poetic. His work hearkens remembrances of Symbolism and Romanticism., English/ Norwegian, Year1995, Illust. B/W5, Illust. Color20, ISBN 8291430020, Code 3539. Hardcover. Zustand: Gut bis sehr gut. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. B4 : 116 pages with 119 color & 24 bw. illustrations. - The British artist Richard Deacon is one of the most significant and innovative sculptors of our time. His unusual vocabulary and forms, his amorphous volumes, intertwined serpentine lines, and dynamic configurations are, as he himself has agreed, full of the movement of the ocean. The concave becomes convex, the transparent opaque, and their transformations leave the viewer seeking in vain for a center. While Deacon initially worked with materials like stainless steel, copper, glass and plastic, in the late 1990s he began to make ceramic works finished in a wide variety of glazes. The Size of It includes those and more.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Text in English and Finnish. 127 pp. Light scratch on front cover. The 1980s in Finnish art were a tempestuous decade in the visual arts, a time when walls were broken down and a new generation of artists with highly individual ways of thinking emerged. Young artists made targe, powerful paintings, enigmatic sculptures and multi-layered video and photographic works, which took over museums and galleries, and also found success in the wider world. Another unique feature of the 1980s in Finland was that so many of the front-rank artists were women. This book places these developments in art into a broader social context: What really happened in the art of the 1980s? What did it mean? And what aspects of it have proved enduring?

Frie creates dazzling landscapes in the the tradition of Romantic landscape artists such as Constable and Turner. Innovative formats however propel these works into a league of their own. This book displays small oil paintings on sketchbook paper as well as horizontal, panoramic paintings, and finally, large-format vertical strips bordered by off-white plain surfaces. The contrast created by these turbulent, energetic landscapes and the non-descript borders, as well as the playful approach in portraying the low horizons, make this book an invigorating, original experience. , Swedish/ some English, Year1997, Illust. Soft Cover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition. Text in English and Finnish. 120 pp. Minor rubbing to covers. Vilnius-born and Paris-based Esther Shalev-Gerz (b. 1948) is a subtle concept artist. In her photographic and video works she investigates how cultural identities are constructed and examines the role and status of traditional professions in a world that is global and undergoing a rapid digital transformation. The book comprises six interviewing series of works. All these works in their individual ways deal with work, its meanings, memories of it, and experiences associated with it, and more broadly with the post-industrial world where modes of work and production have undergone revolution. The book is edited by art critic and curator Timo Valjakka and it is published in association with the Serlachius Museums.
