Buon esemplare, seppur privo di , con minimi segni d'uso sulla cuffia superiore e un piccolo segno a matita blu sull'elenco delle tavole, ma complessivamente ben conservato. Testo programmatico divulgativo che illustra, all'apice della diffusione internazionale del movimento, tecniche e modelli del pittorialismo con esempi di artisti europei, americani e giapponesi. L'autore, pittore e illustratore, esprime in perfetta sintesi l'estetica del pittorialismo, affermando senza mezzi termini il valore artistico del mezzo fotografico se piegato ai codici della pittura e della grafica: «I am certain that pictorial photography may be practised as a branch of the fine Arts, in spite of all that is said to the contrary by art-critics, who for the most part as neither painters nor photographers.
