Es bestand Anwaltspflicht und der Anwalt war für den Bürger oft die wichtigste Hilfe gegen die aktuellen Regime und ihre Willkür. Es geht um Ehen und Scheidungen, um Zwangsverkauf, Konfiskation, Restitution, Verstaatlichung, um Geburten und Erbschaften, Zwangsaussiedlung und Auswanderung, um Einsperrung und Befreiung der ländlichen und kleinbürgerlichen Bevölkerung - wir erfahren von ihren Sorgen und Bedrohungen. Da gab es Zeiten, in denen dieselbe Person unbedingt Deutscher sein musste, kurz darauf aber keinesfalls: beide Situationen musste der Anwalt argumentieren und beweisen. In der aktuellen Situation war der Ausgang des Prozesses das Entscheidende. Heute, drei Generationen später, wird durch sie vor allem die Welt lebendig, in der die Prozesse stattgefunden haben. Aus neuem Blickwinkel und mit frischer Neugier zeigt uns Professor Varady, dass die Papiere auch die damalige Welt festhielten - und das macht sie für heute so interessant.
