The first issue left it to the readers to name the magazine in a "Name Your Magazine Prize Contest." The next four issues were called "The Echo: The Magazine of the Hudson Valley," but beginning with vol. II, No. 1 in 1939, the name was changed to "The Hudson River Magazine."
