Hardcover. Zustand: Good. W. Harvey & I Thomson (illustrator). First Thus. This set housed in original "Temple" case, red leather gilt 18 x 15 x 9 cms. "Shakspeare" across the top elevation in gilt. Appears to lack a front cover closing door to the case, as evidenced by faint hinge clasp remains on the right hand pillar (see 1st image). Title Pages call for 8 volumes. Curiously, seven present here with no space for an eighth? From online sources 8th volume would be of similar dimensions and have comprised: "K. Lear., Romeo & Juliet., Hamlet & Othello". Spines gilt embossed 1 to V11 consecutively and all present (see image 2 attached). All spines marked "Illustrated Edition". All edges gilt. Tiny source sticker "Bowron. 213 Oxford Street". Volume 1 lacks one cm to top of spine (see image). B & W engraved illustrations: "W Harvey Del"., "I Thomson Sc". A considerable rarity. Not dated but very early Victorian.
