His varied career as confidence-trickster, smash-and-grab raider, shopbreaker and forger's accomplice left him with an unrivalled knowledge of Britain's worst prisons and of London's underworld. This book is his account of his life of crime, and what it feels like to be arrested for murder. The book is bound in the original black boards with yellow titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with damp marking to both boards and bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with some foxing to the free endpapers and the fore edge of the text block. A name has been written on the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and foxing is visible on the rear panel and the reverse of the wrapper. The top edge is rubbed and chipped with pieces of up to about 3/8" are missing from around the top of the spine. Small pieces are missing from the corner tips and bottom of the spine and a triangular piece of about 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" is missing from the bottom rear edge. There is a tear of about 1" on the top of the rear spine edge and a few smaller tears elsewhere on the top edge.…
