The Himalaya Mountains contain not only one of the largest concentrations of ice outside the polar regions, but contribute to the hydrological requirements of large populations spread over seven nations. The exceptionally high elevations of this low-latitude cryosphere presents a natural laboratory and archives to study climate-tectonics interactions as well as regional v. global climate influences. The existing base-level data on the Himalayan cryosphere are highly variable. Several climate fluctuations occurred during the late Quaternary (MIS1-MIS5, especially the last c. 100 ka), which led to the evolution of the Himalayan landscape. Detailed studies of these archives, along with those of the present cryosphere and related hydrosphere, are essential for understanding the controls on present and future hydrology of the glacial-fed mountain rivers. This volume, a follow-up of the XII International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Science, Goa (A SCAR symposium), provides new data from locales spread over the entire Himalaya region and from Tibet. It provides a glimpse of the late Quaternary cryosphere, as well as a discussion in the last section on sustainability in the context of geohazard mitigations as well as the hydrological budget. …

A single but notable issue from this influential and important digest, which was the foundation of the Johnson Publishing empire. In addition to excerpting articles by and about African-Americans from other publications, there was also much original content written expressly for the magazine. This issue is especially notable for printing a "condensation" from Era Bell Thompsons's *American Daughter*, an important memoir of Black life in Iowa and North Dakota, later recognized for its excellence and republished in the Sixties. This issue also prints the recurring articles "How I Beat Jim Crow" and "If I Were an Negro," the former by Charles Clinton Spaulding (the longtime President of North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, at the time of publication the largest Black-owned business in America) and the latter by activist and author of *Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer* Saul Alinsky and further titled "Beware the Liberals." This issue also with a four-page insert bound in advertising the NEW *Negro Digest* in full color, as well as the articles "Who is a Negro? The Inside Story of Two Million Negroes Who Passed for White" by Herbert Asbury (condensed from *Collier's*); "A Southerner Looks at the South" by Hodding Carter (condensed from *The New York Times*); "Acid Test of America" by Clare Booth Luce (condensed from *Today's Woman*); "The Harlem Nobody Knows" by Bucklin Moon (condensed from *Glamour*); and the recurring article "My Favorite War Hero," this month penned by Herbert M. Engraved frontispiece portrait and two further full page illustrations in each volume. Introduction text, chapter headings and indexes are in English, the remainder of the text is in French. A near fine set, the bindings square and firm with a little rubbing to the extremities. The closed text block edges are a touch toned and with a few minor marks. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Issued in an edition of just 12 copies, printed on 100% rag paper. Scarce thus. A substantial and important documentary source for the history of sixteenth-century France, comprising the correspondence and papers of Armand de Gontaut, Baron de Biron (1524-1592), Marshal of France. The material was collected by Sidney Hellman Ehrman and, following his death, edited with an extensive introduction by the distinguished medieval and early-modern historian James Westfall Thompson. The first part presents Biron's correspondence from 1557 until his death in 1592, including numerous previously unpublished letters; the second gathers documents relating to Biron, while a further section concerns the Gontaut family.
