Among the most scenic parts of the far-flung Southern Pacific system was the Coast Line between San Francisco and Los Angeles. John Signors 1995 book presented a broad account of the history and development of the line, which this present volume enlarges and extends with the use of further colour images and historic details. A superbly produced definitive work on this stretch of line. A heavy book that may attract additional postal charges.

Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. v, [1], 122 pages. Maps. Figures. Tables. References. Cover has slight wear. This is volume 2 of the Kalmbach Memorial Library series. Anthony W. Thompson earned a Ph.D. in metallurgy from M.I.T. in 1970, worked as a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and at the University of California, Berkeley. He has long had an interest in the history of the Southern Pacific Railroad and in one of its subsidiaries, Pacific Fruit Express. He was the principal author of the 1992 book, Pacific Fruit Express and of the 1999 book, Southern Pacific's Coast Line Pictorial, co-authored with John R. Signor. He is active in historical societies, and served more than ten years on the national Board of the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society. He has been on the Board of Directors of the Southern Pacific Historical and Technical Society since 1991, and has also served five years as President of the Society. This volume presents four papers from the Second Symposium and three paper from the Third Symposium. Perhaps the most noteworthy paper is Larry Kline's "The Evolution of the Box Car, 1850-1990". Other topics of presentations are: The USRA Style Reefers of the SFRD (by C. Keith Jordan); East-West Traffic Flow--A Case History (by Jeff English); Railroad Advertising (by Anthony Thompson); Meet Reefers--A History (by Martin Lofton); A Ride on No. 32 (by Tom Greco); and Service Performance of Railroad Rails (by Anthony Thompson). The A. C. Kalmbach Memorial Library in Chattanooga became the official railroad library of the State of Tennessee when Governor Phil Bredesen signed Senate Bill No. 2280 into law on May 10, 2004. In 2019 the Kalmbach Memorial Library was merging with the California State Railroad Museum to create an even larger research Library.

Zustand: Good. See complete list below. Many in original cardboard mailers. Friends of Photography was a nonprofit organization started by Ansel Adams and others in 1967 to promote photography as a fine art. During its existence the organization held at least 330 photography exhibitions at its galleries in Carmel and San Francisco, California, and it published a lengthy series of monographs under the name Untitled. Untitled was published Friends of Photography from 1972 to 1994. A total of 58 numbered publications were issued, first as a small magazine format and later as a series of booklets and full-size books. Numbers 1-10 displayed the series name and issue number on the cover, but as the publications became more specialized each number was titled independently in addition to the series name. The smallest publication in the series was Number 1, with 10 pages, and the largest was Number 43, with 156 pages. Many of the publications were catalogs of exhibitions held at the Friends of Photography gallery in Carmel, California. The publication featured many famous photographers, including Ansel Adams, Ruth Bernhard, Harry Callahan, Roy DeCarava, Lee Friedlander, Mary Ellen Mark, Aaron Siskind, Paul Strand, Brett Weston, and Edward Weston.
