Hardback cover in blue-green textured fabric, faded gold titles on spine. Good with slight bumping at top & bottom of spine. Binding firm. Text (376pp) good. Slight tanning of page edges & blank endpapers discoloured. A few pages of text annotated in pencil. Name of previous owner in ink on flyleaf. Extensively illustrated, including line drawings by A K Maxwell, & 7 X-ray photographic plates. Original unclipped (16s) dust jacket in poor condition, heavily tanned & spotted, detached at back spine edge.
