While it is the same logo, only his blind-stamped, embossed logo is found on books from his personal library collection. . The embossed logo, was actually impressed on books in his personal library. It is similar to the Hanko [seal/chop] which was found on all title pages of his book, but printed in red-cinnabar ink. This manuscript copy did not yet have his red Hanko, but he penciled in a circle on the title page, indicating where the red logo was his it was to be placed. It was left blank. . This copy has many of Tindale's personal penciled notes and other marks indicating what subtitles, contents titles and other notes to the publisher indicating the 'lay-out' of the book contents. There are also penned numbers throughout the manuscript indicating paper specimen numbers. . The manuscript texts and descriptions were created from either typed pages, 'scotch-taped' in to the double-folded, deckle edge Washi paper pages. or were clipped from a printed test. All were cellulose taped-in, most of the tape dried-out, leaving feint yellow marks both on the pages of text & paper specimens, which were lightly & gently tipped into the book in the same places. . While the 'table of contents' was typed, this manuscript contains somewhat different numbering of each specimen. The book was organized by Japanese "Kuni" or prefectures [i.e. states], but not arranged chronologically. His individual specimen numbering system got confused in a few places, nevertheless the papers are for the most part arranged by geographic location rather than by date of manufacture. . This 'mock-up contains 185 numbered specimens; the final published work contains 187, including two later paper specimens. . The "manuscript" contains penciled page numbers, this numbering system did not find its way into the published edition. The index is also not found in the "manuscript." . The two large folding maps are both contained in the "manuscript" and the published copy. The "manuscript" also contains a good number of pages marked "blank" in Tindale's penciled hand writing. . * THE UNIQUE, SPECIAL STENCIL BINDING AND END PAPERS: . The front covers & end papers were designed, executed and printed by Katazome [stencil] method by the "LIVING NATIONAL TREASURE," SERIZAWA, Keisuke [1895-1984].He was one of the main exponents of the Japanese Folk-movement [Sosaku] during the 1950-60's. The front cover has a color printed title slip, with Tindale's Hanko [seal/chop] printed below the title.
