Brief annotations on laid-in slips in manuscript ink throughout the first script. Laid in is a signed letter from director Nelson to Jenny, informing her that she is a finalist for the role of Victoria (ultimatly the role went to Barbara Carrera). An exploitation film owing much to "Bride of Frankenstein," as well as the technological advances with DNA in the 1970s. Dr. Paul Holliston (Hudson) is a scientist who discovers a method to accelerate the birth cycle to just a few days. This was the first important statement on the preservation of peace through international mediation published in the United States. Anticipating the creation of the Permanent Court of International Justice and the League of Nations by a good 75 years, Ladd proposed an international "congress with legislative powers." The congress would work with a court that enforced its laws and settled international disputes. It became a central text for American peace organizations and participants in international law conferences, and did much to persuade Americans to accept the idea of an international peace organization. It was also distributed widely in Europe, where it was well-received. Ladd, a scholar and philanthropist, was the first president of the American Peace Society. His essay was a contribution to a collection published by his society entitled Prize Essays on a Congress of Nations, For the Adjustment of International Disputes, And for the Promotion of Universal Peace Without Resort to Arms (1840). In original dark brown cloth, blind-stamped on boards, titled in gold on spine; plain endpapers; xiii, [vi], xii [13] 14-706pp. A straight, tight copy, spine sunned, rubbed at extremities, with inch-long crack to base of lower joint; minor foxing throughout, but otherwise bright: Ver…y Good. In the 1830s the American Peace Society held an essay contest "on the subject of a Congress of Nations," judged by John Quincy Adams, James Kent, and Daniel Webster (iii, v). This volume collected the best essays, as well as Ladd's own contribution--intended as a summary of rejected essays, but in fact an outline of his own concept of a "congress and a supreme court of nations" modeled on the American government. This scheme was "mainly reponsible for engendering the international peace movement of the mid-nineteenth century under the leadership of Elihu Burritt" (ANB).
