Gilt lettering and decoration to both boards and spine. Bumped to corners. Heavily rubbed to board edges, and cloth has frayed in several places revealing the bare boards unde…rneath. Both boards have mottled discoloration and are soiled in several places, with large patch of water damage to rear board at foredge. Spine is sunned, and crumpled to head and tail. Cloth is frayed at head and tail of spine, where there are several very small closed tears. Dent to foredge of upper board. 3 edges gilt. Both inner hinges have been professionally repaired with paper. Front inner hinger visible but holding. Front endpapers and prelims have become partially detached towards tail but are holding. Front free endpaper has small pencil annotation, large ownership inscription in pen, and small newspaper clipping of advertisment for the book stuck in. Large area of water damage and several pencil annotations to rear pastedown. Rear free endpaper has a tiny closed tear to foredge. Several pages are slightly crumpled to edges. Pages are browned and foxed. A charming copy.
