Copiously illustrated throughout with eighty seven plates from original drawings by Thomas H Shepherd. Thomas Hosmer Shepherd was a renowned topographical watercolour artist well known for his architectural paintings that were characterised by an attention to detail, along with lifelike scenes that contained people, carriages and horses. He illustrated many works including 'Metropolitan Improvements: London in the Nineteenth Century' and 'Bath and Bristol, With Counties of Somerset and Gloucester'. With an introduction and notes by the renowned antiquary, author and editor John Britton. In a half crushed morocco binding, with cloth boards. Externally generally smart with rubbing to extremities, joints and spine. Ink mark to front board. Slight fading to spine. Hinges slightly strained but reasonably firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages age toned to extremities, with light scattered spots to the occasional page. Spotting and the occasional tide mark to fore edge of plates. Very Good. book.
