Original Wraps. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket, as Issued. First UK Paperback Edition. A later 12th impression of the first UK paperback edition, published circa 1980 - with a printed price of £12.99 on the back cover. The paperback edition was first published in 1975, and was preceded by a hardback edition in 1970. Edited By Thomas H. Johnson. With a seven page Introduction by Thomas H. Johnson. ***Very good in the 1980s style Faber-monogrammed blue textured card covers. The covers have some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling (please see scans). Edges of covers rubbed and creased, especially at the corners. Light vertical reading creases to the spine, which is also gently rolled (curved) from reading. No reading lean to the binding though, and no tears. The back cover is slightly marked. Spine colour is unfaded. Page block edges nice and clean. Internally also very good, with no previous ownership inscriptions, but please note that a previous owner has made a note of their favourite poems and these are listed on the inside front cover, but in pencil, so could be erased if so wished. Emily Dickinson's birth and death dates also in pencil on the half-title page (please see scans). Internally the pages are clean, with no tears or annotations, but please note that the top corner tip of the first few pages is creased. ***198mm x 128mm. 770 pages. ***Contents: Introduction, Poems, Acknowledgments, Previous Collections, Subject Index, Index of First Lines. ***'"The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson" is the only one-volume edition containing all Emily Dickinson's poems. The editor, Thomas H. Johnson, has presented the poems in their original texts; and where alternate readings were suggested, he has chosen only those which the poet evidently preferred. His introduction includes a brief explanation of his selection of texts as well as an outline of Emily Dickinson's career. Mr Johnson, a distinguished Dickinson scholar, is also the editor of the only other complete edition of Emily Dickinson which exists, a three-volume critical text.' (Quote taken from the back cover) ***A later 12th impression of the first UK paperback edition of this collection. A good reading copy of a book that is quite hard to track down, and a valuable resource for those who want a complete collection of the poetry of Emily Dickinson. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.***.

Hard Cover with Slipcase. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. Complete in three volumes (Volume I, Volume II, and Bibliography) with original slipcase. Pages clean except for a prior owner's name penned at each front free endpaper and a scattering of very small, dark brown spots on the head edge of Volume I. Cloth hard covers show gentle dust staining along the spines, otherwise excellent. Dust jackets are quite faded and toned along the spines, with some noticeable droplet spots, and all three have small edge tears and chips, scattered spots and smudges, and a bit of edge creasing, but are intact and now protected in clear sleeves. The slipcase has an internal tape repair, noticeable toning around the edges of the title plate, and edge tears and chips along all sides as well as dark spotting around the top panel, scattered handling smudges and specking, and some separation still visible at the bottom rear edge, but is included for completeness' sake. xx, 636; vi, 639-1422 incl. cumulative index; xxii, 817pp. including separate index. The reference that launched a thousand dissertations.

Sixth printing. Three octavo volumes; gray cloth hardcovers in publisher's slipcase, pp. lxviii,378; [379]-820;[821]-1266; 12 unnumbered leaves of photographic plates (facsimiles in halftone). Tight, straight and unmarked - a Fine set. In the original slipcase, lightly worn and soiled, VG or better. The acclaimed critical edition of Dickinson's poems, long out of print and a necessity for both scholars and lovers of Dickinson - to quote Randall Jarrell's original review in Harper's (1955): ".This is, truly, a marvelous book: the reader finishes speechless, and laughing, and shaking his head in helpless wonder. All the absolutes and intensives and eccentricities of an absolutely intense eccentric have passed over him like a train of avalanches, and left him a couple of hundred feet deep in Knowledge.".
