With a preface by the author of the Review. London : printed for, and sold by William and Joseph Marshall, at the Bible in Newgate-Street, 1706. First edition with the added preface signed: D. Foe, i.e. Daniel Defoe. Pamphlet. Disbound. 4to. Pp. [2],xi[i.e.ix],[1],40,42-43,"45","45",[8],55-66p. P.ix is misnumbered xi; text continuous despite pagination. Browned throughout. Couple of headlines slightly shaved.Thomas Delaune ( d. 1685 ), nonconformist writer born near Cork. Brought up a Catholic and later converted to Protestantism by his employees. When this book was first published in 1683 part of the text was construed as libel which resulted in his imprisonment , he was never releasd and died in Newgate Prison in 1685. In the Defoe preface he bitterly criricizes the parsimony of De Laune's fellow dissenters when they had the opportunity of raising a 100 marks for his release. ESTC N8336.
