Eigenhändiger, signierter Brief des US-amerikanischen Geigers, Dirigenten und Lehrers Theodore Spiering (1871-1925). --- Sprache: deutsch. --- Sein Vater, der Geiger und Dirigent Ernst Spiering (1845-1887), wurde in Lübeck geboren. --- Datiert Chicago, 3539 Michigan abenue, den 15. Novembe…r 1892. --- Diese Adresse ist als Anschrift von Theodore Spiering erwähnt im Werk "Meeting Louis at the Fair: The Projects & Photographs of Louis Clemens Spiering" von Carol S. Porter, St. Louis 2004, S. 23. --- Theodore Spiering spielte seit 1892 im erst 1891 gegründeten Chicago Symphony Orchestra auf einer Geige von 1729 des Geigenbauers Guarneri del Gesù (1698-1744), die er mit Hilfe des Violinisten und Dirigenten Joseph Joachim (1831-1907) erwerben konnte. --- Im Brief erwähnt er seinen erstes Konzert mit diesem Orchester und charakterisiert dieses. --- Theodore Spiering war ein Bruder des Architekten Louis C. Spiring (1874-1912) und ein Enkel des Journalisten und Karl-Marx-Freundes Karl Ludwig Barneys (1815-1876). --- Auszüge: "Lieber Paetow - Einen solchen Brief lasse ich mir gefallen! Das erfährt man auch was vorgeht! Ich muß Dir gestehen er hat mir eben 'den blues' gegeben; verdeutscht 'Heimweh'. Ja, den alten Grimm vermisse ich sehr; bitte grüße ihn recht herzlich von mir, wenn Du ihn das nächste Mal siehst. Ich habe jetzt gar keine Zeit zum Lesen; besonders diese Woche ists die reinste Hertzjagd. Gestern fand mein erstes Konzert statt. Ich spielte mit einer jungen Dame die Rubinstein Sonate [.]. Donnerstag spiele ich in Milwaukee und Freitag wieder hier. Das Programm für das letztere lege ich bei. Dur wirst bemerken daß ich meinem lieben Brahms gleicht das Vorrecht gebe; wie's den Leuten gefallen wird ist mir einerlei. Jetzt ein Wort über das Orchester. Es ist ausgezeichnet, mit Ausnahme der Hörner und Posaunen [.]. Besonders die I. Geigen sind gut; ich glaube sechs Joachim-Schüler sind darunter. Steindel, der erster Cellist ist, spielt so schön wie früher. Der erste Flötist, Andersen, ist ein Bruder des Berliners. [.] Am 21. und am 26. spiele ich in St. Louis. Wenn das erste Konzert gut ausfällt, ich meine pecuinär, so reise ich auf zwei Tage zu meinem Mädchen nach New York. Ihr Geburtstag ist nämlich der 23. und so trifft es sich sehr gut. [.] Nun, adieu, lieber Freund, grüße die Deinen recht herzlich von Deinem treuen Theodore B. Spiering." --- Mit seinem erwänten "Mädchen" in New York ist sicherlich seine spätere Ehefrau Frida Mueller (* 23. November 1870 in Cincinnati, gest. 1960 in Burbank, Los Angeles) gemeint, die er 1895 heiraten sollte. --- Umfang: vier beschriebene Seiten (20 x 12,3 cm); ohne Umschlag. Das Papier mit Wasserzeichen der Firma Dunwell & Ford, Chicago. --- Beiliegend moderne handschriftliche Übertragung (mit einigen Lücken und Lesefehlern). --- Zustand: Papier leicht gebräunt, mit kleinem Einriss in der Mittelfalz.
