Sie müssen deshalb möglichst genau behandelt werden, und zwar nicht für sich allein, sondern im Rahmen der weltgeschichtlichen Verhältnisse und Ereignisse, worein sie der Allmächtige gezeichnet. Eine einlässliche Besprechung fordert ebenfalls die Gründung des Klosters, weil sich in ihr die göttliche Vorsehung, die augenfällig über dem heiligen Ort waltet, in besondrer Weise zeigt. Auch die Männer, die als erste und zweite Zeugen durch Wort und Werk ihren Glauben an die Erscheinungen bekundet, verdienen mit ihren Familien, näher gekannt zu werden. Wir würdigen ihr Zeugnis um so mehr, je tiefer wir in ihre Herzen blicken. Es ist somit das erste Jahrhundert der Gnadenstätte, dem wir unsre eindringendste Aufmerksamkeit zuzuwenden haben. Von der Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts an können wir uns verhältnismässig knapper fassen, um dann noch etwas länger bei der neuern Entwicklung zu verweilen. Hiermit wäre mein Programm gegeben.? (p. 3 u. p. 6). ?? 1583 baten drei Kapuziner aus Altdorf in Luzern um die Erlaubnis, eine Niederlassung zu gründen. ?[Renward] Cysat konnte ihnen als ersten vorläufigen Sitz das ehemalige Kloster der Schwestern von St. Anna im Bruch zur Verfügung stellen. Da jedoch das zerfallende Haus schlecht diente, baten sie um Errichtung des Klosters bei der schon bestehenden Wallfahrtskapelle Unserer Lieben Frau auf dem Wesemlin [.]. Auf dem von Kaspar Pfyffer geschenkten Land konnte am 4. Juni 1584 der Grundstein gelegt werden; am 23. Oktober 1588 erfolgte die Weihe der Kirche, und auf Ostern 1589 zogen die Patres ein. [.] Hier befand sich in spätmittelalterlicher Zeit eine kleine Kapelle oder Bildstock [.] mit einer Statue der Muttergottes, die im Mai 1531 von nächtlichen Bilderstürmern zerschlagen wurde. An Pfingsten des gleichen Jahres hatte der Spitalpfleger Moritz von Mettenwyl an dieser Stelle eine Muttergottesvision, die sich am Tage darauf wiederholte. Anstatt des alten Bildstockes stiftete Mettenwyl eine Kapelle [.]. [.] Die Wallfahrt dehnte sich immer mehr aus. 1595 ging Cysat daran, die Mirakelberichte zu sammeln. Er erwähnt dabei wächserne und eiserne Votivgaben, von denen die letzteren für unsere Gegend volkskundlich ein Unikum darstellen.? (A.
