Zustand: Near Fine. dj. First printing. First US edition - signed by Jansen (artist), Herzog (photographer), and Weschler (text) - of this monograph on the majestic and life-like moveable sculptures of the famed Dutch artist. As Jansen has written about his ongoing and popular artistic project: "Since 1990 I have been occupied creating new forms of life. Not pollen or seeds but plastic yellow tubes are used as the basic material of this new nature. I make skeletons that are able to walk on the wind, so they don't have to eat. Over time, these skeletons have become increasingly better at surviving the elements such as storm and water and eventually I want to put those animals out in herds on the beaches so they will live their own lives." This book remains one of the best overviews of Jansen's work. It is uncommon signed by the artist, and scarce by all three contributors. 13.5'' x 9.5''. Original yellow boards with titles stamped in black. In original unclipped (no price, as issued) photographic jacket. Yellow endpapers. 328 pages. Illustrated throughout, with numerous fold-out panels. Signed and dated in year of publication by Jasen on page opposite half title. Additionally signed by Herzog on the title page, and inscribed by Weschler with a quote ("All that is solid melts into wind") below. Trace shelfwear, rubbing here and there. Touch of fading to spine. Offsetting from publisher's adhesive visible in gutters (production error), unobtrusive. Overall, bright and sharp. Very good plus in a near fine jacket. Signed. …
