Hand-colored frontispiece. 16mo red blindstamped Victorian cloth gilt lettered to cover (head and foot of spine sl.worn else nice and bright) 72pp Small corner crease causing tiny tear to margin of frontis and a faded pencil inscription dated 1850. *A poverty stricken woman takes in a dying woman and baby which she then adopts and at great cost to herself sends him to school and teaches him right from wrong so that he grows up into a charming boy who resists temptation from an older lad who then tries to incriminate him. Ends well. 1 volume. Hardcover.

13pp. Thin octavo [23 cm] Light green and black printed wraps. Very good. The covers and pages are lightly creased and age-toned. There are multiple small losses from the paper along the fold of the spine and the edges of the wraps. A small tissue repair has been made to the top right corner of the front wrap. The wraps are mildly abraded and have multiple scratched indentations. One of the scratched indentations is a faint numerical notation. In addition, there are numerous extremely tiny stains on the wraps. Includes a section on the Mormons and polygamy on p. 11. With a sheet of paper stating "Compliments of William M. Bunn, Governor of Idaho" mounted to the title page. Not in Flake/Draper.
