Peter Cunningham, a curate who was born and lived in Chertsey, known for his publication of several political poems. This particular poem was written as a tribute to whig politician Charles James Fox, dedicated to him on his birthday.'Saint Anne's Hill' refers to Fox's grand mansion located in Chertsey, and resulted in Cunninghams increased popularity, leading to the second and third edition of the work being published after his death.
