The following year, Governor Oglesby was present at the Petersen House when Lincoln died on April 15, 1865. Oglesby served three nonconsecutive terms as governor, and he also served one term as a U.S. Senator. The town of Oglesby, Illinois is named in his honor. The preface of this book was written by the future Vice President of the United States, Charles G. Dawes.
