In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Complete Official Engineering Blueprint Portfolio. Oblong Folio (Folder: 350 x 240 mm; Plans unfold to 850 x 350 mm). Title page, followed by a complete sequence of 31 large, fold-out Diazo print (whiteprint) engineering schematics numbered N.9619/1 to N.9619/31. Housed in the original publisher's brown soft-cover folder. Binding remains structurally sound and intact, holding all 31 fold-out plans securely. The Diazo prints and text pages are in very good, clean condition throughout, exhibiting a little age-toning to the plans. An exceptional, clean, and remarkably complete architectural survival. The Victoria Line stands as one of the greatest feats of mid-twentieth-century British civil engineering, representing the first completely new subterranean tube line built across central London in over fifty years. Although a high-speed line linking the north-east to the south-west was originally proposed in 1948, parliamentary approval and funding stalls delayed the final go-ahead until 1962, with construction taking place throughout the 1960s. This ultra-scarce internal portfolio provides a massive, highly detailed 88-feet-to-1-inch surveyor's view of the line, matching the underground paths precisely against the surface street architecture above. This specific issue features vital engineering updates and amendments running up to 1968, capturing the definitive "as-built" configuration of the tunnels just as the line prepared to open its first stages between 1968 and 1972. Complete sequences of these large internal LTB whiteprints are extremely rare and highly prized by historians of London topography, civil engineering, and mid-century industrial design.…

In good condition, lightly aged, with trace of tape from mount adhering to blank reverse of second leaf. Folded twice. Jerrold has tipped in a newspaper cutting of a letter by him to the editor of the Daily News at the head of the first page, proposing 'A STATUE TO SIR JOHN RENNIE'. He states that a thought has stuck him 'more than once while approaching London-bridge from the great railway station situated on the Surrey-side of it', and suggests a place where it should be placed, considering that 'the suggestion has only to be made public to command the support of a powerful committee'. In the autograph letter to Manby, signed 'W Blanchard Jerrold', he explains that he published the letter the previous Friday, and that he is 'induced to think the suggestion it contains would meet with extensive support if backed by a powerful committee.' He offers to act, 'with pleasure', 'in the capacity of Hon: Sec:'. He thinks it is a cause in which Manby 'will & can do good service', and 'Three or four good professional names, including your own, to head the committee, would promote the object in view, essentially.' He ends by asking if he can be favoured 'with an early word'. It does not appear that the memorial was ever erected.…

A sensitive letter of condolence, beginning: 'Dear Willy | I was so shocked to hear on Thursday of the great loss you have sustained, and I hesitated to write to you, for letters of condolence are such empty useless things. But on the other hand I dont want you to suppose that I feel indifferent to anything that touches you so closely & deeply. We have been such sympathetic friends for so long, that tho I did not know your father, he too seemed almost like an old friend.' The letter concludes with a rumination on mortality, Dredge finding sympathy 'not wholly useless but [] a poor thing in the presence of death'. Note: This letter derives from a collection of letters of condolence to the Forbes family on the death of William Forbes, father of Stanhope Forbes, founder of the Newlyn School of Art whose brother was "William".…
