Cloth. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. First edition. The first edition memoirs of Mgr. de Salamon, a member of the French Parliament during the French Revolution. The scarce first edition. Held institutionally in only one UK library. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with gilt detail to the spine. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece. The unpublished memoirs of Mgr. de Salamon, internuncio at Paris during the French Revolution of 1790-1801. This work is divided into three parts, the first dealing with the internuncio's imprisonment with a number of Catholic priests, nearly all of whom perished in the September massacres. The second portion deals with the Chambre des Vacations, of which Mgr. de Salamon was a member. The third part is devoted to the Salamon's correspondence with the Pope. An interesting historical work, giving a thorough overview of the events of the French Revolution. With a preface, notes and documents by The Abbe Bridier, of the clergy of Paris. The half title page is present. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some shelf wear to the edges. Light marks to the boards. Small crack to the upper spine, however it is still very firm. Some offsetting to the free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned to the edges, but otherwise very bright and clean. The odd spot throughout. Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). book.…
