The Lincoln Herald is one of the longest running publications about Lincoln and the Civil War. This magazine is devoted to the field of Lincolniana and the Civil War and to… the promotion of Lincoln ideals in American Education. Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is a private liberal arts college in Harrogate, Tennessee. LMU's campus borders on Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. LMU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). In December 2014, the law school received provisional accreditation by the American Bar Association. LMU's Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum houses a large collection of memorabilia relating to the school's namesake, Abraham Lincoln, and the Civil War. The collection was initially formed from donations by the school's early benefactor, General Oliver O. Howard, and his friends. This issue contains an article entitle "A Mutual Trust is Vital" by William C. Westmoreland and is based on an address that General Westmoreland, Chief of Staff, United States Army, gave to The Lincoln Academy of Illinois at Springfield. General Westmoreland was a veteran of the Second World War and had been the Commander of the United States Military Assistance Command in Vietnam, before becoming the Chief of Staff. This is an extremely scarce work by General Westmoreland and addresses the need to keep the ROTC on college campuses and also bemoans that 'indiscretions of the actions of a few are used to vilify our Army as an institution." Other articles addressed political patronage, the Black Hawk War, and the Emancipation Proclamation. Among the authors are: Gary L. Erickson, King V. Hostick, Wayne C. Temple, Richard Allen Heckman, and Patricia K. Ourada. Presumed First Edition, First printing this issue.
